As May begins, Japan’s humidity season arrives. It lasts from May to June/July, bringing frequent rain and high humidity levels. During this period, moisture easily accumulates inside apartments, causing problems such as mold, bad smells, damp bedding, and even allergies.
If you’re new to Japan, preparing your room before the rainy season will make your daily life much more comfortable.
🌟Daily tips to fight mold
✅ Use your air conditioner’s Dry Mode and keep the ventilation fans running in the bathroom, kitchen, and toilet.
✅ Move furniture a few centimeters away from the walls and avoid overcrowding your wardrobe.
✅Vacuum floors regularly to remove dust.
✅ Clean the floor after cooking or eating.
✅ Wipe water droplets from shower walls using a squeegee after every shower.

These are some of the most used mold cleaning products available during Japan’s humidity season:

Ofuro no Boukabi Kunenzai (防カビくん煙剤): A popular smoke bomb which releases disinfecting agents to kill mold spores.

Important: remove the plastic seal before use. Once the container is full of water, simply replace it with a new one.
For maximum effectiveness, place several containers around the room, especially inside closets and wardrobes.
